Bud Bongao is the sacred mountain peak of Bongao, Tawi-Tawi in the southernmost Philippines. Rising 314 metres above the surrounding sea, the mountain is one of the most important sacred sites in the Tawi-Tawi archipelago — revered by both Muslim and indigenous communities as the home of spirits and sacred animals including the long-tailed macaques that inhabit the forested slopes. The climb to the summit offers views across the islands of Tawi-Tawi towards Malaysia. The macaques are considered sacred and must not be disturbed.
